What? So how come the ACC can't shake down networks in such a way?

The Big12 negotiated incredibly well to keep their payouts the same. And they've also been able to negotiate more money from their anchor bowl, the Sugar, than the 14 team ACC was able to negotiate for its anchor bowl, the Orange.

And why wasn't the ACC able to shake down their network when they were struggling to survive? And believe me, had ESPN not promised a network, the ACC would have been the one being picked apart.

No matter how you try to spin it, the Big12 leadership has negotiated much better deals than their ACC counterparts. And the Big12 schools still own their tier 3 TV rights. Those schools are cashing in millions from those right now in addition to league payouts. And in the case of Texas and Oklahoma, those schools are cashing in tens of millions from tier 3 content that the ACC schools are not able to capitalize on.

Geography is what doomed the Big12. There really isn't anywhere for them to expand to. But despite that, the ACC made it close when determining who numero 4 in the P4 would be. Far closer than it should have ever been.
