I agree rivalries is what sets college athletics apart from the pro leagues

However, look all the "rivalries" that have either ended and/or not even considered a "rivalry" anymore. How many Hokie fans miss the VMI-VT "rivalry"? Heck - how many Hokie fans even know about the VMI-VT (VPI) rivalry?

I am not sure the power schools would have to leave the NCAA in order to negotiate as a collective. Remember that each division level has their own set of bylaws. In theory the power schools could decide to form their own division level under the NCAA umbrella and establish their own set of bylaws which may (or may not) include negotiation of media contracts.

Given how the cost of a college education continues to increase every year and how more recent graduates have these enormous student loans that they may never pay off in their lifetime, I do think that will impact how they view college when it is time for their children (and even grandchildren) to go to college. It is why I think at some point people may decide to push back when you consider how much a person has to spend for their college education. Then after graduating the school (graduate and undergraduate) are asking that person to give back ("donate") on both the academic and athletic side.

With people today having to set more of their income aside towards retirement and considering what people use the rest of the money for in their personal lives (i.e. mortgage, food, car payment, on their children, etc.) at some point something may to give. I am just not sure if schools are prepared for the backlash and the possibility that the current revenue stream in athletics comes tumbling down like a house of cards because of changes made by the states and/or federal government.
