With 8 squads that won 8 games or more (warning, long post)

11-1 Clemson, three 9-3 squads in FSU, UL and Tech, and four 8-4 squads in Pitt, Miami, GT and UNC. Normally, the Coastal has one 9- to 10-win team followed by a few mediocre 6- to 7-win teams at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place spots. This year the Coastal was much better IMO, but still lacking that "dominant" team.

GT really finished strong and went from 5-4 and just hoping to make a bowl to a solid 8-4 squad. Good thing Clemson disn't schedule GT later this year.

Pitt had some real head-scratchers and close games this year, but happened to beat 2 teams (Clemson and PSU) that are in the playoff conversation.

Miami had a very rough October losing streak, but still managed an 8-win season. Good for them.

UNC choked down the stretch and showed everyone why they didn't deserve the Coastal Title. They were a bit disappointing as everyone thought UNC would at least be a 10-win team. Still, 8 wins isn't anything to be ashamed of.

Tech was predicted to be the middle of the pack and hoping to keep a bowl streak alive. With the exception of the Syracuse stinker, they had a very respectable season and exceeded expectations, knocking off every 8-win Coastal contender except for GT and winning their division along the way.

Clemson is as expected, but seems less powerful than last year. CU almost lost to UL, NCSU and had several other tight games through the 3rd quarter this year. Their loss to Pitt gives many of us Hokie fans hope that they are vulnerable. I don't expect Clemson to fall to Tech, but Tiger fans shouldn't take Tech very lightly.

FSU had one stinker versus UL. They also struggled mightily on defense earlier in the year. FSU probably wishes they could get UL back again. That game wouldn't be the same.

Louisville well, we all know my love for the Cardinals. What can I say. I said earlier in the season that I've seen this UL show before and that it consisted of flash, smoke and mirrors. Still, they finished with 9-wins. Should have only been 8 because I think the Hoos should have beaten them.

Wake faultered down the stretch, but are bowl eligible with 6 wins

BC eeked out 6 wins by beating Wake. I'm glad to see BC moving in the right direction.

NCSU made their bowl eligibility by knocking off UNC. NCSU almost tanked that game in the end. Also, NCSU had very good games versus Clemson and FSU and should have beaten Clemson.

Duke is the best 4-win team in the NCAA. Watch out for them next year.

Syracuse had one great victory over Tech. Other than that, Syracuse was not very good this year. But, I think they'll get better with Dino Babers. They may win 6 games next year.

UVa had a very rough season, but did knock off a good Duke team. They also had Louisville on the ropes and should have won that game. I think Bronco will move the needle more next year. UVa may not get to 6 wins in 2017, but they'll turn some heads. 2016 UVa football reminded me of the 2014-15 Tech basketball season in Buzz's 1st year. Not pretty, but you can see it's going to go in the right direction.
