I believe 10 of the 14 schools would vote to keep it.

BC, Louisville, UVA, and VT may be the only schools to vote for eliminating it. As far as making it optional, it would be pointless if 10 schools decide to keep it. Instead of VT being paired with BC and UVA being paired with Louisville, both schools would have a rotating pairing between BC and Louisville.
