I'd say this weekend shows you shouldn't give auto-bids

Conf championship games often do not pit the two best teams against each other. All you have to be is the best of a basically random set of six or seven teams (i. e., division) and then win one more game. Logic absolutely hates that. People are so desperate to tie conferencr championships to the playoffs. Just enjoy them as they are and stop worrying about the playoffs. the whole regular season (including OOC games) are a lead up to the four best teams.
