Except "best" is very subjective. Heck even whatever poll(s) are used are

by the media and public is/are subjective too. So when you (or others) say, "Conf championship games often do not pit the two best teams against each other," then how can anyone be sure that a CCG doesn't have the 2 best teams from the conference playing against each other? Likewise, how can anyone really be sure the Committee has selected the 4 "best" teams for the Playoff or that the Championship Game has the 2 "best" teams? The conferences don't play enough regular season games against each other to create a sample size large enough to more accurately determine how the conferences stack up against each other. Since conference games carry more weight on where teams rank in weekly polls, then voters are relying on a handful of OOC games to help determine that a win in Conference A is "better" than a win in Conference B.

If the #3 and #4 seed both win their semi-final games, then does that mean they are truly the 2 "best" teams? If people are willing to accept the #3 seed and #4 seed as being the 2 "best" teams because they won their semi-final games, then they should have no problem accepting how a conference decides who gets to participate in the CCG.
