Just follow the FCS model but make the playoff games "bowls" and keep...


the money. Move the bowls so they start after university exams are over (so start before Christmas). Make it a 16-team playoff like the FCS and remove conference championship games so there aren't teams playing more than 12 games before the playoff.

Conference Championships really need to be nixed but I understand money is involved. Ohio State has the best record in the B1G and should be in the playoff. PSU should be in the equation too, but the 4-team limitation is short-sighted.

Up to seven conferences (ACC, SEC, B1G, Big XII, PAC, MWC & AAC) send the team with the best in-conference record, as long as that team has at least 10 overall wins. If the conference champion has 9 wins or less, that conference cannot send it's champion unless they are selected as an at-large. If there are 2 conference teams with the same record, send the higher ranked school or the team that won head-to-head if they played. That leaves 9 at-large (possibly more) selections that can be selected by ranking.

Rankings should be more formulaic with SOS, number of wins, winning streaks, etc. Human polling can still be a part of selections, but should be downscaled. Rankings should not exist until the 1st week in November.

There can also be an "NIT" version of this to allow for the other top 32 teams to play, and use up the glut of bowls that exist today.
