And that divisional winner is decided by overall record...

not head-to-head within division, not division record, not conference record. It's not an apples-to-apples comparison, though.

If you had a 15-1 team that lost only one divisonal game, and the team that beat them had lost two or more games (say two, for a 14-2 record), only one of which was in the division, you're still going to have the 15-1 team win the division. Even though the team that beat them has the identical division record AND the head-to-head win.

Under the college system, the 14-2 team would win the division and go to the conference championship, despite the team with the better record being in their division. But since the NFL regulates "OOC" schedules, those games count in determining the division champ.

It's mainly because out-of-division schedules in college football are created based on a rotation (for in-conference games) or haphazardly (for OOC games), where for the NFL, the schedules are created each year based on the previous year's record.

So you can just thank unbalanced schedules for yesterday's result. The committee is just doing the best they can with the data they have. They think, due to the strength of OSU's other wins, that they are the better team, enough so that the H2H and CCG doesn't close the gap. It is what it is.
