How do you know any team the Committee votes in the Top 10 of their
weekly polls "deserves" to play in the Playoff? The weekly polls are subjective and could be influenced by any biases of each member. For example the #3 ranked team in any given week beats a team with a losing record by only 3 points. Even though a Committee member may think that #3 ranked team played like the #24 ranked team that week, that member may decide to still vote the team to remain at #3 because he/she was willing to overlook the game because that team is considered to be a "blue blood" or that member doesn't believe a team that wins should drop in the polls.
Chris Fowler said something interesting yesterday early on in the Selection Show. He said "People are willing to ignore/overlook the flaws of teams they want in the Playoff and punch holes in the resumes of everyone else" (or something to that effect). When he made the statement I got the impression that he was questioning the entire objectivity of the selection the process.
