Erin Garner "should" play in a week since she...
transferred from Georgia Tech to Florida International last December. Every December transfer that I've ever heard about got to play the next season after the first semester (mid-December).
The only things that could prevent her from playing would be academics (which likely isn't the reason) or the ACC transfer rule (which says an undergraduate player who transfers from 1 ACC school to another must sit out 2 years instead of 1). Garner did enroll at FIU last winter and left last spring (May) but never played basketball there. Is Georgia Tech involved in this decision?
If Garner doesn't play this season, the ACC needs to specifically state that once an athlete leaves the ACC, they can never play in the conference again as an undergrad unless they sit out 2 seasons. What Garner did was within the ACC transfer rules. I don't know if any other ACC athlete has ever transferred from an ACC school to a non-ACC school and transferred back to another ACC school? Maybe this is much ado about nothing and Erin Garner will be playing in a week. I'm just curious why Kenny Brooks still doesn't know (on December 5) if she'll be eligible this season.
