About 20% were against a playoff. This article, among others, suggests that a larger percentage of players would oppose further expansion due to the wear and tear associated with an NFL-style schedule. Don't forget that the playoff teams will have a higher percentage of NFL prospects than non-participants - playoff participants will have the most to lose from injury.

So, I think any expansion of the playoff MUST be preceded by an anonymous player survey with published results. If, for example, 1/3 of players oppose the 8-team playoff due to injury concerns, I think the grownups have to step in and put a stop to expansion. At some point, you are asking too much of these student-athletes. PR would be a serious concern as the general public would have no sympathy for superfans obsessed with finding a 'true champion'.
