Swofford plays the cards he is dealt well
As opposed to Bowlsby and past Big 12 commissioners. Just take for instance the mass exits due to total confusion concerning the Big 12 future a few years back and then the recent dog & pony show foolishness on expansion that made half the AAC appropriately bitter and everybody else in college football amused.
No, Swofford has engineered long term GOR's, high exit fees and now an ACC TV Network. All very essential to ACC survival at least for the immediate future.
The ACC TV Network is still a somewhat unproven commodity as far as gauging the degree of its future prosperity. Will this ACC network garner profits comparable to the SEC & B1G? Or more resemble the Pac 12 TV Network or heaven forbid, maybe even resemble the Longhorn TV Network? These conference TV networks are surely no guaranteed panacea. The ACC strongest suit is basketball. Football is only a priority with FSU, Clemson & Virginia Tech. Interesting to view how all this will pan out from the outside as I view these things.
Anyhow, I don't think Slive was ever any real threat to the ACC in expansion. Not aggressive in the least bit. Slive got his doctorate in law at the University of Virginia. Kind of an ACC dude as a younger man. Greg Sankey is born & educated in New York State but did all his later administrating in Louisiana and was commissioner of the Southland Conference for years. He has no ACC past connections. I know these SEC commissioners from Kramer & Slive from the past see SEC expansion as a big part of their legacy. No reading Sankey on any of this for the future?
