Miami had no other options, except independent.
The ACC was the premier league at the time. Their payouts were tops in the game.
And notice that Miami eventually came without either Cuse or BC? It wasn't the sticking point some have made it out to be. Actually, the ACC accidently called their bluff and they happily came along with just VT. Regrettably, the ACC LATER went back and added BC. Where was Miami going to go at that point. WVU, Rutgers, UCONN, Louisville, Pitt, Cuse would have all jumped on board to be number 12. But the ACC chose BC a year AFTER Miami was added. What leverage could Miami have had at that point?
