To compete it would need to increase revenues by $40 million per year quickly and permanently (with inflation adjustor of course). Every year VT doesn't do this, it falls further behind.

So you can have you wishful thinking about the Tech 25 campaign and a few million extra $$ each year from the SEC network, but with a region only moderately passionate about VT football (particularly in NoVa where a majority of VT alumni live), an enrollment of only 30k (and thus a medium sized alumni base), a medium sized stadium, no media monopoly in a major metro market (competing with not only several other schools for football, many for basketball, and pro teams), competition with UVA for state political influence, etc, etc., VT's ceiling is higher than where it currently is but would be - at best - in the middle of the pack behind Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M, and probably Tenn. And if Oklahoma joins the SEC...

So that makes VT = South Carolina, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky (w/o the basketball) and so on.
