Different SEC members in 1990

I am not exactly sure of the chronological order that Kramer took in choosing his 11th & 12th members in 1990. However I am absolutely sure his first choice in the West was not Arkansas nor South Carolina in the East. I have heard that many times.

I suspect he went to Independent FSU first for the East, then to Texas in the West. FSU said let us think about it, Texas said No. Kramer then went to the Aggies, they said no. That brought Arkansas into the picture. South Carolina later got an invite when FSU refused.

I am almost positive there would have been no 13th & 14th adds to the SEC in 1990. Kramer just needed 12 teams to set up the CCG he desired, he desired nothing more.

Arkansas would have went to the Big 12 in 1995 in the best scenario if the Longhorns or Aggies had entered the SEC in 1990. However it is possible the Hogs would have went the route of Houston, Rice and SMU in 1995. Arkansas was the only none Texas school in the SWC. The Hogs never got preferential treatment down there. The Big 12 was no guaranteed destination with Texans calling the shots back then. Frank Broyles is very much revered in this state for getting the Hogs into the SEC. Broyles was an old Georgia Tech QB.
