Also, I agree there is a possibility that Kramer could have been content with just adding 2 schools. Which could have meant that the SEC approached South Carolina before approaching Arkansas. If it played out that way, then it would have been interesting to see how future conference realignment would have played out and whether the conferences would look the same as they do now.

Even though Miami joined the Big East as a full member in 1991, it may have had second thoughts about joining if the SEC had extended an invite in 1990. It would have been no different than what TCU did to the AAC before ultimately joining the Big XII. If Miami had decided to join the SEC in 1990, then I think it could have opened the door for FSU to possibly join later. I could be wrong, but I would think CBS and ESPN would have been willing to pony up the cash if it meant having the opportunity to televise UF-FSU, FSU-Miami, and UF-Miami as conference games especially since all 3 were at the top of their games in the 1990s. Then again maybe everything would have played out the same regardless of when who joined what conference when.
