I think 12 team conferences of two divisions was the ideal configuration. Round robin in one's division and only a three year break between playing opposite divisional opponents at least SEC wise.

I think going beyond that was not unlike letting the genie out of the bottle. Kind of a greed gone wild scenario. I don't think the somewhat at least slightly unwieldy number of 14 is near the end of it. The number of 16 with a 9 game conference schedule gets more back into the none esoteric environmental range akin to 12 with the all important cash a flying.

I can sadly see this all going to 20 SEC teams with (4) five team pods. Play a round robin in your pod and rotate the other three with a nine game conference schedule. A team would thereby play every member home & home every six years.

The SEC & B1G would be the big dogs in this. The Big 12 would be gone and the ACC riddled. The Pac 12 would be unaffected to add what's left at will.

I don't think these 20 team conferences would be built for many decades of longevity. Too many different parts pulling with different ideals in different directions. However they would be colossal cash cows for the short run.

Money seems all important, the bigger and richer the better. Who knows where it will end??
