It will only be on NYE if NYE is on a Friday or Saturday. Otherwise it will be on Saturday before NYD unless the Rose and Sugar have the semifinal. Then it will be on NYD.

I personally don't get the "tradition" of the Rose and Sugar. The Rose is almost always one of the most boring bowl games IMO. The Sugar is usually better, but it doesn't have to be married to NYD any more than the Cotton Bowl or any other bowl. But that is what they are doing.
