Shouldn't you keep your eyes on the ball?

Or how about putting the player receiving the ball at half court and bouncing it to him rather than slowly rolling the ball to him so that he has to keep one eye on the ball and one eye on the defense.

I just don't see much of an advantage to slowly rolling the ball up the court and having the guard walk alongside it and picking it up at half court.
