What right to the Hoos have to claim to be "The University" when they're not even the top institute of higher learning in the Commonwealth.

But last summer I was on a college visit with my daughter at "The College" of William and Mary, and was amused to hear the Tribe refer to themselves as "The College".

Alas, I realized, Hoos referring to their school as "The University" is not an act of arrogance, but instead is an inferiority complex as they look east to "The College".
