A package deal is possible for a lot of conferences. I don't think the P4


want the schools in the Big 12 to lose power conference status. Most think it will weaken the game and not strengthen it if they aren't included.(at least most if not all of the Big 12 teams) One, because the bad PR will be horrendous and two, to preserve the intensity of some of the close rivalries. (College football in fact all of football is in a precarious state right now with concussions, social media highlighting sleazy recruiting more than ever etc.)

Also, 14 teams which is three out of the 4 conferences is not a good number. They can preserve or renew some annual rivalries easier with 16 or even more with 4 divisions instead of two.
