They are in a bad place


Geographically speaking, they are waaaaaaay out of their conference's footprint, recruiting against the SEC, ACC & B1X schools that surround them.

The best thing that could happen to WVU is to get an invitation to one of the other P5 conferences, and I just don't see any more expansion unless (a) the Big-12 implodes, or (b) ND decides to join the ACC in football (which would require an additional school to balance the divisions).

Unfortunately WVU is in a sparsely populated state, with a fan base perception problem. But if MDU was attractive enough for the B1X, the latter must not be a big deal. (Everyone knows MDU was "the WVU of the ACC.")
