West Va took a bad situation and made it work. They took

marginal, and sometimes troubled, recruits and fit them into their system. They played well and were very lucky that the Big XII was in a high state of turmoil at the time they made the decision to pull out of the Big East, now AAC. However, the Big XII sports products are not what they were years ago. Texas has been bad, and the other schools have had up and down years since the conference shakeup. The current Baylor situation is adversely affecting the school and the conference.

Having a down year in recruiting may not hurt them if it is just contained to one year. Multiple consecutive down years will eventually take its toll as we well know.

After VT got in the ACC a lot of WVU fans had a violent reaction toward VT fans primarily, I believe, because we did not "take them with us" to the ACC, or because we got out of a bad situation and they did not. A lot of hostility still remains on both sides from that event. I doubt the hostility dies down anytime soon.
