Thoughts after attending today's game

Overall I thought the team played hard. Cut to Regan was unfortunate. I thought Sydney and Regan were competing for rebounds, refs really allowed physical play which was an advantage for GT. It was almost too physical at times

Additional thoughts:

1. Did Coach Brooks explain why he started Erin Brooks today and not Hicks. First player off the bench was Kendyl. I assume he was trying to keep Chanette out of foul trouble

2. We started with complete denial of 55 getting the ball (no help defense by our defender). I assume our scouting report had her as their main offense threat or person who runs their offense. I don't watch GT women's bball so I don't know.

3. I think we were up 7 with 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter when Regan got cut. We were 6 rows behind GT's bench. When she walked by you could see the nasty gash with quite a bit of blood running down her face. Don't know how they mend those today, when I was younger it would have been quite a few stitches.

4. Going box and 1 and putting Erinn on 21 or 11(whoever was in) I thought was a smart coaching move. I heard the coaches tell her to faceguard her and not let her get the ball or rebound. Erinn played hard. Fact is we simply ran out of bodies today when Erinn is getting that much playing time.

5. We could not stop 11 and 21 in the low post. When Chanette was on the ball side when 11 or 21 had it in the low post she would drop down and try to steal, getting 2 steals, I think. I don't know if she was doing that on her own or was coached to, but I thought we needed to do that with all of our guards when they got the ball in the low post. I know they were hitting their 3's, but you can do that and get back to contest a 3. Side note on 3's: I looked at the stats midway through 2nd quarter and GT had a total FG% of 46% and a 3 pt FG % of 70%.

6. I gotta admit, when watching live I thought the refs blew 2 calls late. Once when they called a foul on Vanessa after Sydney got a rebound with about a minute left, and then later on our next possession when they didn't call a foul against Sydney when she got a rebound and tried to get a put back. After reviewing on the ESPN playback, I think they got both calls right.

7. Malcolm Delaney was at the game. Most probably know that he now plays for the Atlanta Hawks. Good of him to come, I wonder if VT invited him.
