Even a 12-member conference is less likely to produce a rematch

in a CCG. Florida and Alabama faced each other in 4 of the first 5 SEC CCG and none of those games were a rematch. In fact the SEC's first rematch was not until the 1999 CCG (8th overall) when Alabama and Florida squared off. Alabama won both games that year (40-39 OT during the regular season and 34-7 in the CCG). FWIW the SEC has only had 6 CCGs that were rematches. In 5 of the 6 games the same team won both games.

The only way I could see a 12-member conference increase the odds that the CCG is a rematch is if it decides to rotate all 3 cross-division games and divides up the 6 schools in the other division into 2 groups of 3 that rotate every 2 years. Even then we might not see a significant increase in rematches.
