Athletes from other sports can compete at club and intramural levels. What's the matter with that? If they enjoy their sport, they can compete day and night if they would like. I do feel there are some schools who would support certain niche sports. If it comes close to making money, then support it. That's the way the world works. Anything else is akin to charity.

Additionally, there may be a requirement to support a couple of womens teams. So women's bball and soccer may be options.
