Look, people. First of all "rooting" by its essence is an exercise in fantasy. You all get that, right?

OK, now. As long as we are in a fantasy world, I'm always going to assume VT will win every game they have remaining. To assume otherwise is to admit you have no clue on how to have a fantasy.

Next, I'm going to root against a) teams I hate most, and b) teams whose losing can benefit VT most.

I will never sacrifice rooting against a team I hate because of rule #1: I'm going to assume VT will win out, plus rule #2: I always end up rooting against teams I hate even when their winning will somehow possibly benefit VT.

So, in this case: it doesn't freaking matter if Syracuse is on the bubble and close to us in the standings. VT will win out and Syracuse will be behind us (see rule #1). So, I can freely root against Duke and for Syracuse because a) I hate Dook, and b) If Duke loses out VT will pass them in the standings (see rule #1).

OK, does everyone get this now?
