I keep seeing references to the 2010 team that went 10-6 in the ACC.

The 2010 team had NO Top 25 wins and 8 Top 100 wins. This year's team has two Top 25 wins and 11 Top 100 wins.

VT's non conference schedule was dramatically worse in 2010 than VT's non conference schedule this year (that is really saying something.). I think it was dead last or very near to it. VT had ZERO Top 100 RPI wins in the non conference in 2010. VT has FOUR Top 100 wins this year and possibly one Top 50 win over Michigan (#51) on the road.

Finally, the ACC record of 10-6 in 2010 is viewed a tad too favorable in retrospect by current Hokies. Of those 10 ACC wins, SEVEN were over ACC teams that had an RPI OVER 90. In 2017, VT already has SEVEN ACC wins that are inside the Top 90.... (Most are actually in the Top 80, but who's counting? Oh, I am). The ACC of 2010 isn't close to the ACC of 2017.

So, just to sum up, in 2010, VT beat exactly three teams that made the NCAA tournament, all of which were seeded 7, 9 and 10. No other VT wins that year even sniffed the NCAA This year? Duke, UVA, Michigan, Syracuse, Clemson x2, GT, Pitt. Those are 8 wins over teams listed on the current bubble watch. If some of those teams don't make it, it's probably because they couldn't beat VT.

The two years (2009-10 and 2016-17) aren't even close, in comparison. VT is almost certainly in with 20 wins and a 9-9 ACC record. You have to accept it.
