Gymnastics much easier to add

Gymnastics would be much easier and cheaper for schools to add than ice hockey because most schools can use their main arena or an auxiliary gym for gymnastics.

Adding an ice plant to most of the arenas in the ACC would be too expensive.

The only arenas with an ice plant are BC's, NCSU, FSU, WFU, and ND. Syracuse's ice rink's building only holds 350 and would be too small, and I don't know if the Yum Center has ice making capability, but if it does, you could add Louisville.

Pitt, GT, UNC/Duke and Miami could all use the arenas that are/were used by NHL teams in the area, but I don't think NCSU will want to share with Duke/UNC. GT may not be able to use Phillips in Atlanta, but could use the arena in Gwinnett, but that might be a bit too far away for daily practice.

UVA, Clemson and VT are pretty much SOOL. VT would have to commute to Roanoke daily to use the Civic Center, and if that isn't available to Lynchburg to practice. UVA would have to play their games in Lynchburg at Liberty's arena or go to Richmond Colesium to play. Clemson would have to go to Greenville to play and practice. At a minimum, to build an on campus ice hockey arena would cost about $25M.

The ACC right now would be foolish to add hockey, but after a few years of the ACCNetwork being up and running, it would be very financially viable.
