Frankly, that position implies VT cannot sustain being in the ACC
I question your numbers. I rather discuss it from the expert than from 'innocent' observer.
With your information, therefore
If VT a school that 33,000 attendees and over a billion dollar operation cannot sustain the athletic dept equal to its peers, we do not merit ACC membership and should drop to ODU level and with the debt owed by the university on the stadium and other athletic facilities without any revenue streams, it would squash any development opportunities for the university.
HOWEVER, there are wiser minds in blacksburg, VT is in the initial phase for big growth to within next 15 years to 45k and with that facilities and infrastructure. Most will be funded by NON appropriated dollars and research driven research and corporate partnership. Along with that will be an appropriate level of athletic department infrastructure to support the 3 main teaching campuses of the university in Northern Va, Roanoke and Blacksburg. (AND yes within 15 years, VT will not be branded as a single polar campus in SW va but a huge engine wining the DC market as a teaching campus as well as a nexus of medical research in in their medical campus in Roanoke.
SO, bottomline...sounds like fake news by a contingent of folks that want VT to remain and regress back while VT was a regional resource like VMI
