If the PAC were willing to take a few "less than ideal" candidates, they could walk away much better positioned for the future. Take Texas Tech to get the Longhorns. Take OSU to get the Sooners. Take K State to get the Jayhawks. That gets them all the way up to 18, into the Central time zone, and gets them 2 very huge football properties and one huge basketball property. Granted, there would be hurdles to overcome (Cali schools overlooking academic shortcomings of some of the candidates and the whole longhorn network thing), but I'm not sure they have a whole lot of other options if everyone is looking at a "go big or go home" mentality in the next round of expansion.
