I don't see college soccer blowing up...
Circumstances allow the MLS and EPL to get decent ratings, and it's a fraction of what football gets. MLS gets 500K-1M viewers on ESPN nothing else would be on otherwise, kind of like all of the bowl games in December. The EPL does much the same in those pre-noon time slots. Soccer gets good TV numbers when- (A) a big event- the World Cup, Euros, Copa, CL (B) the USMNT/USWNT are involved in said big event, and/or (C) the 2 mega stars, Messi and Ronaldo, are involved. Eureka when it's all three- Portugal vs USA had 25 million viewers in the 2014 WC. But college soccer games aren't going to move the needle. Unlike college football & basketball, the best college age American players are in Europe, and the guys a level below them are in the MLS, so it's a watered down product. This is coming from a soccer fan- I'm an AO member and I love my Gunners, but college soccer does nothing for me.
