PSA: VT Track at NCAAs tonight on WatchESPN

The meet starts at 6:30 Eastern. Hokies to watch are:

6:30, Pole Vault: Volz and Laidig. They won't show much on ESPN, but both have a chance to score (outside shot at a win).

6:45, Mile Prelims: Gourley is in the same heat as the Oregon legend, and collegiate record holder (3:52.01) Ed Cheserek. Cheserek might be attempting an unprecedented mile, 3k, 5k, and DMR quadruple. The mile field is loaded, but Gourley has a good chance to make the final.

8:20 pm, 800 Prelims: Piazza and Joseph in this for VT. The 800 field is completely stacked. Piazza and Joseph have top 5 times coming in, and have the ability to qualify for the final. This is one of the best 800 fields I can remember in the last 25 years.

9:55 pm, Distance Medley: I am really looking forward to this race. The big question is whether Cheserek will come back to run the mile leg in this after running the mile prelim at 6:45 AND (possibly) the 5k final which starts at 9:20. Last year he won the 5k and then came back with just a few minutes of rest and ran 3:54 to anchor the DMR to the win. Oregon will need every point they can get to go for the team win, so he might pull it off. If he runs this, Oregon will win. If he doesn't run... It's a wide open race. We have several options to run (we actually had two completely different teams run qualifying times this year. I've never seen that before), but if we go after this, I think we are a dark horse candidate to win it.
