One huge issue is they aren't getting a SOS boost in conference

The P5 conferences are just much stronger than the next tier. That could shift back, but they are working from a position of weakness.

I'm looking at conferences like the ACC & Big-10, where you have a really good chance to lose if you don't bring your "A-game." The good mid-majors just aren't being challenged at that level.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the P5 committee reps are working to get extra P5 teams into the tournament.

The bottom line is that (with a few exceptions) mid-majors just aren't putting as many strong teams on the floors as the majors...and with the change where P5 players are now getting paid, the gap will widen.
