VT may have had fast players here and there over the years

but I am not sure if there was ever a year where someone could say the entire team was fast/quick. I am a little surprised you didn't mention the talent level of the individual players, the amount of depth at each position, and potential scheme issues as factors for any "decline" in the program towards the end under Beamer.

I say that because your post made me think of various regular season games and bowl games against P5 schools. In every decade under Beamer you can find examples where "team speed" (using loosely because the team speed may have been based on a handful of players) helped VT win those "big games" and VT lost those "big games" because other factors (i.e. player talent, depth at a position, etc.) may have had a bigger influence than team speed. Sometimes it can be very difficult to pinpoint which factor was the main reason for a VT loss. For example did VT loss the MNC against FSU in the 4th Quarter because VT lacked team speed, talent, depth at certain positions, or scheming issues?
