He didn't apply for the job, JW wasn't going to find hardly anyone else
to take it. JJ was a last ditch effort to keep several players at the school. Essentially, he was a stop-gap to make sure the program didn't fall off a cliff, just down a steep hill.
It was a crap situation, but it was JJ's chance to be a head coach. It really was a worse situation than Buzz because Buzz knew he wanted to leave MU, was able to bring players with him, and didn't have a bare cupboard to work with once getting here.
