I listened to an interview with Fuente speaking of recruiting and rankings.


Basically he was saying that it does not take a genius to be able to spot the top 50 or so recruits every year in the nation because the skill levels are so much above the remainder of the recruits. The difficult part was in evaluating the remainder of the recruits and recruiting them to your needs.

I think basically what is in play here is that this recruit is basically so far above his peers, that Fuente is willing to offer him based upon his projected talent and development. At 6' tall in the eighth grade, he is not likely finished growing yet but he has enough athletic ability to offer him based on potential alone. Being an honor student helps to lessen the risk of the offer as well as he probably has a very good supporting cast around him.

Like I mentioned before, there is nothing binding at this point so VT really only has a hat in the ring so to speak at this time but it does not hurt that it is the first one.
