Frank and Bud to have the idea he would develop into the player that he has become? How did that work out for VT?

Looking at the above posts, I have not read a single negative result that could come from an offer of this nature. There are only either positive results or neutral results so there is no logical reason for VT not to make this type of offer, especially since the blue bloods are more than happy and ready to do it and it is completely within the rules.

As far a commitment offers are concerned, every offer prior to the September 1st of their junior year of high school, is simply a verbal offer. Would you suggest that VT wait until then to offer every recruit?

What, other than looking silly, in your mind is the negative result that VT could experience for this practice? If there are none, then why should VT not do it?
