Regardless of whether we are talking about guns or not, measuring how much of something got prevented is impossible. You can make estimates based on a laundry list of assumptions, but you can't measure it.

I expect you could find reasonably accurate reports of accidental injuries and deaths.

But any report of crimes prevented by guns would be nothing more than estimates and assumptions (which are inevitably slanted to tell the story whoever is making those estimates and assumptions wants to tell).
