Depends where you live. If you live away from the beach then you might

Appreciate the beach more. You can go high end or low end at Virginia Beach. First Landing State Park is also a unique option right on the Chesapeake Bay, near the oceanfront. Fishing can be good. Lots of golf options. You're an easy drive to the historic area of Jamestown and Williamsburg along with Boush Garden. The Virginia Marine Science Museum is an option on a rainy day especially for kids. Ocean Breeze Amusement Park is close to the oceanfront and is fun for kids, too. You might be able to get a tour of one of the Navy Ships in port as well. Although, I'm not sure if they do that much anymore? Locals take them for granted but they're impressive the first time you see one up close.
