It's not so tough to imagine that record when the schedule is basically


St Marys and a cluster of teams all equal to the lower half of the CAA. Basically, they have 16 conference games that are complete gimmes. Not to mention the several gimmes OOC as well.

HWA above this post mentions that UNC lost to Indiana and Georgia Tech. Yet, both IU and GT would be about the 4th or 5th best team Gonzaga had beaten (prior to the tournament). The fact is that Gonzaga only had about 7 or 8 realistic chances to trip up. They tripped up once which is still pretty decent.

Gonzaga deserves credit and they are a very good team. But if you gave UNC, Villanova, Kansas, Wichita State, Kentucky, Louisville, Oregon, Arizona, and UCLA a similar schedule, they'd stand a good shot to only lose once as well. Not saying they would, but they would have a good shot. And then names listed above is not necessarily all-inclusive.
