I'm sorry that you have that mindset. VT's a top 20 program.

1.In the post in which Dave listed ratings, the ACC did quite well, except for the Clemson vs. FSU matchup oddly. The just happened to be a World Series game with the magical Cubs playing that night. Clemson vs. Louisville did as well as any of the ABC prime time matchups. The Pac12 was the only league with obviously lacking ratings. I will say that the Noon OSU vs. Michigan game was a ratings MONSTER that was paralleled. I think there's some potential for ACC monster games, especially if a top 5 ND were involved.

2. And we ARE a top 20 draw. We've not been a top20 team all that much lately, but we have plenty of fans around. OSU has 12 games each year, and the VT game in15 was an ESPN record breaker. Sorry, OSU isn't breaking ratings records when they play Iowa, Wisconsin, or Bowling Green.

3.It's a combo of things for an SEC school. TV and Bowl payouts have us down $10 million out of the gate. THEN, the SEC has awesome home schedules. VT's been having to play most of its best games in recent years in NFL stadiums and NASCAR tracks due to crappy ACC schedules. We do have some nice B1G programs and ND coming through in the near future though. However, you drive up ticket demand with Vols, Gators, Dawgs, Gamecocks, and the occasional Tide and Aggies coming to Blacksburg. Vt would raise a ton more dough if that were so. I've heard Hokie Club reps tell us that the biggest driver for donations is better football seats.

4.I'm telling you that if I'm sitting down to watch random football, I'm almost always looking for the best matchup. If there's a #5Stanford vs. #6 USC on, I'm watching that over #3Penn State vs. #23 Wisconsin all day long. I do the same with the NFL too. I'll watch the Bengals vs. Chiefs if they're both top 5 or 6 teams before I watch the Cowboys vs. Bears. Again, sorry you feel that way about VT's program. We have every bit as much national ratings appeal as Wisconsin. If we're a top 6 team, I think MORE folks will watch us.
