Consider the following


I don't agree with several things Swofford has done but I think he does catch more grief than is deserved by some.
- ACC is a "basketball conference" and 80% of tv money is in football. football tv money has come a long ways since 2002.
- ACC got the best football brands they could possibly get in Miami and VT. Yes, VT got shoehorned in but it is a vote and many of the presidents were going along with the Miami-BC-Syr package. Swofford could have controlled that situation much better, though. Was a mess that he leaned form.
- He tried to get Penn State and Texas. The Notre dame deal has benefited the ACC.
- On one hand, why would you get BC, Syracuse, and Pitt if you were not 100% going to do a network soon? On the other hand, remaining a smaller 12 member league (with anyone besides BC) could have strengthened the Big 12 (adding Pitt and Louisville) and made the ACC's position weaker.
- The SEC and B1G got the carriage and dollars it did because of the football fanbases. Missing football games in their respective regions was just not an option. The same cannot be said for the ACC. There was likely some lost revenue in there but it would not command nearly what the B1G and SEC do.
