ACC football fell after that time. So did the money.

Expansion didn't bring the money expected. BC was a drain, Miami was always on the way back but never actually getting better. VT carried the banner for a while but eventually we even stumbled a bit. FSU fell off with Bowden at the end of his career. While other conferences were signing bigger deals, the ACC was looking pretty mediocre. I wonder if we could have even negotiated a beneficial ACC Network from such a position of weakness. The conference is much stronger today. But we have put ourselves behind the other conferences by several years. We can blame Swofford, and he deserves some of the blame. But if the main football schools, like Clemson, FSU, Miami (not VT, we did our part for most of those years) had not stumbled we would have had ESPN begging us to form an ACC Network.
