They have five (six counting Notre Dame) when none of the other Power-5 conferences has more than two. The BC addition was a mistake, but it could have been remedied in the second round of expansion in 2011 by taking WVU instead of Syracuse. That would have accomplished three things: (1) Strengthened football (2) made the Backyard Brawl an ACC property, and (3) possibly kept Maryland from leaving, especially if rival WVU was in their division. The ACC holds their nose up at WVU's academics, but ironically if the ACC had added WVU, they would be better off academically since they would not had to have replaced Maryland with the academically inferior Louisville. The tandem of Maryland and WVU is academically superior to Syracuse and Louisville (Syracuse is academically the lowest ranked private university in the P5, with the possible exception of TCU).
