Re: Is this a good move for Pitt?

His name has been out there for a while as sort of a third or fourth option, with most Pitt fans not too excited about that option. Lots of criticism on the Pitt forums of the way the school's brand new AD approached the interview process, especially with respect to the top candidate, Santoro of Lehigh (and a Pitt alum). Rumor mill says she was on the phone with Lou Roselli - only at Oklahoma for 7 months - on the day that Santoro was visiting, and she gave Santoro short shrift despite the fact that the Pitt fan base was very excited about him. She came from Ohio State and so did Roselli, so maybe he was her top candidate. So then a number of top candidates -
Santoro, Tim Flynn, Bono and apparently Roselli - say no to offers, and the HC search is looking grim.

Gavin could be very good in the room, but there definitely is not a lot of buzz to the hire. And in the recruiting world, buzz matters. A few examples of buzz: Dresser and our former assistants in Ames; VT adding 2 recent Olympians; Roselli going to Oklahoma.
