Here's where I would start when considering who's in & who's out of P4.

First, football attendance:

Secondarily, I would consider basketball attendance figures found here:
http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball_RB/Reports/attend/2016.pdf

A few key takeaways for the folks on this board to chew on.

Wake and BC suck. Absolute dead weight on this league. They bring nothing to the ACC, and BC even costs us a ton in travel. They average barely over 30K for football and under 10 K in basketball.

Duke is only slightly better, though they could obviously sell more tickets in a bigger arena and they are a big draw on the road. My thoughts are, all things considered, Duke carries it's own weight for the ACC.

West Virginia absolutely deserves to be in the P4. They are in the top 30, which would obviously be upper half of the P65, in BOTH "ALL GAMES ATTENDANCE" for football and basketball.

For all the fuss around here about the B1G being devastating for Maryland, Maryland was number 5 in home basketball attendance and number 4 in ALL GAMES basketball attendance. They were a pretty big draw on the road in the B1G it seems.

This has me second guessing UCONN as an addition to the P4/P65. They had less than 30K for football and only slightly more than 10K for bball. But heck, that's better than 3 or 4 current ACC teams playing current ACC schedules.

Louisville home football attendance was unexpectedly bad. This was their year to sell some tickets and they only had 54K for their home games. Getting over 20K for basketball is pretty impressive though.

Anyhow, you can really see why football is the primary driver of revenue in college sports. Michigan had 883 K people show up to watch football. Kentucky had 397K to watch basketball.

Additionally, notice how the teams with 100K stadiums play 7 home games? Why would they not? That's 10-20 million extra bucks. VT should try to have 7 home games each year too.
