So UConn moves the needle in NYC in women's basketball

Let me know when UConn football moves the needle that much. The ACC has already established its brand in basketball. When you are the premier basketball conference there is no benefit to strengthening that image when there are other areas (aka sports) that need its image improved upon. Also, adding another "basketball school" will end up causing the ACC to miss out on additional revenue in football (i.e. bowl payouts). The ACC is already behind the Big Ten and SEC in revenue. How much more further behind the 8-ball does the ACC want to place itself?

Men's basketball and football will always be the revenue sports at the HS and college level. In order for a conference to truly be strong overall, then it should be near the top in both sports especially since no one knows how long football will be driving the bus. If there comes a time when men's basketball is driving the bus, then the SEC will probably lose some of its luster since it isn't nearly as strong in the sport. Until that day happens, then the ACC shouldn't neglect all the work that needs to be done in football especially since it has quite a few members who will never obtain the level of a Clemson or FSU.

The Big East divorced because of the basketball vs. football debate. It wouldn't surprise me if the ACC suffered the same fate. For the schools in the football camp, I don't think they believe that football is the most important sport. If anything they will probably believe that a conference should aim to be at the top in the 2 main sports. However, I could see the basketball camp believe that basketball is the most important sport since they have accepted their fate that they will never be great in football.
