Recruiting is salesmanship. When everyone knows what is under
the hood, then the tour of the show room or manufacturing plant won't close the deal as often. Generating interest and excitement is all fine and good until the people doing it are no longer telling the story that Fuente wants to sell. At the end of Beamer's run (and for obvious reasons not just related to transparency) he was recruiting against a narrative that was oft repeated by multiple outside sources. If Fuente is going to improve recruiting at VT, then he needs the advantage that closed doors can provide.
