Nickeil Alexander-Walker in AI Roundball Classic...

I watched to the game last night to see N A-W play and get the chance to greet him. NAW scored 14 points in a game that the two hightest scorers chalked up 37 and 34 points. Most of the scoring was by alley oops from point guards to power forwards or centers. It was basically a free for all since the players don't want to risk injury by actually playing defense.

NAW did not seem to have the showboat mentality that some of the others had. He let the game come to him for the most part. I think he was bored...and I was bored.

That doesn't mean there were no outstanding plays. It was a cornucopia of the most excellent passing and stuffing that I have ever seen in one place.

During the first half, NAW was playing with his left thumb (non shooting hand) supported with tape. He did not have the wrap in the second half.

NAW's team won 198 to 152. The halftime score was 98 to 70. But they played 12 minute quarters. ; )

I got to welcome NAW after the game. He is really excited to be a Hokie. I asked him about the thumb. He said that it was a sprain and that it was okay.

I wished NAW well and he thanked me for coming to see him. We are getting a great all 'round Hokie.

I almost forgot. Someone leaving the gym as I was walking up spotted my VT gear. He told me that we are getting a great one in Wabissa Bede. He was moving on so I don't know what his connection is. But it was great to hear the comment.
